The house

At 51 rue de Gand, almost opposite the sister houses. The street runs down towards the Porte de Gand, through which people left Lille for Flanders, and it has become one of the streets where you eat best in Vieux-Lille.

La Vieille France opened in 2010, and the intention fits in one sentence the team wrote themselves: to pay tribute to the cooking of their childhood. The slow dishes, the ones left on the corner of the stove, with the wines from the French regions that go with them.

The room carries all of this without saying so. Copper pans hung from floor to ceiling, dried flowers on the beams, cement tiles, red napkins on the tables. And the lower room, a vaulted cellar, which is the real reason people stay.
